The Willow Learning Story
When I finished university in Scotland and stepped into my very first classroom, the reality of teaching hit me fast. Nothing truly prepares you for that moment when theory becomes practice and you suddenly find yourself responsible for guiding a room full of students.
Since beginning my teaching journey in 2010, I have learned that the job involves much more than delivering lessons. It is meaningful and rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming, exhausting and demanding, with constant pressure and endless tasks.
Teachers spend most of their time in the classroom, so it needs to be a place that supports both you and your learners. It should feel safe, respectful and welcoming, encouraging curiosity and confidence. A positive classroom culture helps students grow, eases pressure for teachers and allows learning to be meaningful, enjoyable and sustainable.
After moving to Australia in 2016, I taught in a range of settings, including traditional classrooms and distance education. These experiences highlighted how demanding teaching can be, with high expectations, long hours and the emotional load that comes with supporting students, yet my commitment to meaningful learning never changed.
My passion for education and belief in inspired teaching is what drives me now. I want educators to feel supported, confident and motivated, not just getting through each day but genuinely feeling fulfilled and energised, because when teachers feel supported, students grow with them.
As a teacher and parent of two, I value learning environments that balance wellbeing, purpose and curiosity. I believe in creating calm and organised spaces where teachers feel ready and students feel confident.
